Last day of school!

Thursday, June 12

I love the End of Year Assembly when Stockholm International School's Pre-K through graduating Seniors come together in Johannes Church to celebrate the past year and accomplishments. Many students and parents dress up for the occasion and excitement is in the air as summer holiday is about to kick off.

Graduating Seniors entered and gave a flower to each student in Kindergarten as a way of 'passing the torch'.  Student and PTA choirs sang, speeches were given and awards were presented by the American, British and Japanese ambassadors for academic achievements.  Unfortunately the acoustics in the old church made it almost impossible to hear what was said.

After the hour long ceremony students, family and friends filled the park around the church with good wishes for a wonderful summer and good byes.  The mood is cheerful and brave as many people say good bye before leaving Stockholm for a new assignment in another city or return to their home country.

last day of school!
The girls had a great first year at Stockholm International School.  It was fun to listen to them discuss different countries and languages of friends in their classes.  The girls learned about natural disasters, health, toys, story telling and more.  The last mini-unit was all about the World Cup.  The girls are rooting for Croatia, Germany, Brazil... basically their friends' home countries.  The year was full of field trips, athletic days, class presentation and parties.

Since starting school last August we have traveled to Italy, the Czech Republic, Northern Sweden, Spain, Denmark and Latvia. We look forward to exploring more of Europe and know there will be trips to London in the next year as Gabby's friend, Annabel, moves to the UK.

saw these guys on the way home... the skull and crossbones blanket is to make them look tough in their pink stroller?!
over the past 2 weeks we continue to see trucks full of celebrating senior graduates from around the city... smells like a late night in Buckhead (Atlanta, GA), in other words - stinks like a lot of beer!
