Lalandia - Billund, Denmark

Lalandia, Billund, Denmark - Have you seen the movie The Truman Show?

Lalandia was great for accommodations.  700 houses in three different sizes and styles with basic furnishings, bring or rent your linens and towels with playgrounds and recycling stations dotting the suburban landscape.
Upon arrival each person is issued a plastic wrist band to wear for the duration of your stay.  The wrist band is used to lock and unlock your house door and spending money can be put on the band so you don't have to carry a wallet in the Aquadome.

A car would have been convenient but not necessary.  The walk from our house to Lalandia was about 10 minutes and 15 minutes to Legoland across the road.  There is a shuttle train that runs the length of the property to and from the Lalandia building but it did not run very frequently and when it did, was always headed in the opposite direction from us.
our modern house - 3 bedrooms, 1 bath
At the head of the suburban grid is the world of Lalandia. Walk through the revolving door that effectively seals off the indoor from the outdoor, the temperature and lighting is always the same.  Gordon said if it were any it during the day they'd have to clean more.  There is a fee for each activity:
  • Aquadome water park
  • bowling
  • mini golf
  • bungee/trampoline jumping
  • winter wonderland - skiing, skating, tubing, rock climbing
  • fitness gym with badminton court (a serious sport here)
  • Monky Tonky - little kid climbing and play area
  • Little Las Vegas for video games and gambling
  • shops
  • supermarket
  • three restaurants - buffet style:  Mexican, Italian and American (the best one)
  • Service center
the hurricane water slide in the Aquadome
Lalandia interior - town square, supermarket, restaurants
fun outdoor playground with built in mini-trampolines and climbing structure
Entrance to the Aquadome was included with our accommodations.  We used it for a little bit each day after Legoland.  Gabby wished we had one more day to spend in Billund so we could take advantage of all the activities in Lalandia.  We accomplished what we had come to do... see Legoland, the Aquadome was a bonus.  Maybe if we had fully embraced all the activities at Lalandia I would feel differently, but I was ready to leave the faux Lalandia world with stale air and artificial light.  It was too much for me!
